OVERVIEW
BHDM Design partnered with Hyatt Regency SOMA to reimagine the hotel’s lobby and lounge experience with a refreshed visual identity aimed at attracting guests in a post-pandemic setting.
As part of this transformation, three ambient digital installations were created to enrich the atmosphere, slow-moving, immersive visuals designed to complement the environment without distracting guests or staff. Displayed in ultra-wide 4K resolution and seamlessly looping at 10 minutes each, these pieces offered a dynamic yet calming addition to the newly revitalized space.
MY ROLE
Joining the team early on in 2020 when our team was just 3 developers. I designed directly under Staytions leadership. Assigned the task of taking a hardware prototype concept + rough sketch and visualizing its current capabilities and eventual possibilities in both functionality and hardware appearance. Through research and collaboration, I designed many different product demo videos and marketing materials. My content aided us in evolving our product from first-pass alpha concept to real world multi-fabricated V0.1 hardware.
My Role
I was commissioned to design and animate three distinct visual reels based on BHDM’s mood boards and our collaborative critiques. The concepts included "Colorful Painterly Hand", "Black and White City Lights at Night", and "Ethereal Fog". From creative direction to execution, I interpreted the design goals into motion experiences that aligned with the hotel’s refreshed aesthetic, ensuring the visuals were both engaging and harmonious within the lounge setting.
The Three Deliverables
1. Colorful Painterly
BHDM's vision for this deliverable was inspired by professional fine artist James Nares and his layered single stroke style showing overlapping curved brush stroke textures sweeping and intertwining around itself.

Final Deliverable
After several rounds of critics with BHDM we finalized our visual loop with an off white background and moss green paint pallet stroke. Engulfing the viewer through an endless loop of paint strokes.

2. City Lights at Night
Inspired by artist Leo Villareal and his partnership with Illuminate. BHDM's vision for their black and white city lights themed loop was encompassed by blurred out city bokeh lights, the verticality of the bridge supports and high contrast of dark and light values.

3. Ethereal Fog
BHDM's vision for this deliverable was inspired by billowing San Francisco fog flowing through the the Marin Headlands and covering the city and famous Golden Gate Bridge.
